Fernando Pessoa

Fernando Pessoa is a member is the portuguese agency Vencidos da Vida, and integrated Orpheu, a dismembered group that did various jobs, from missions involving other ability users, or translations. His ability is called Desassossego

Appearance

Pessoa is a young man of average height with pale skin and very dark eyes. He has black hair, slightly wavy and by the shoulder level, almost always tied. Wears a white shirt with an unsecure bolo tie, black pants and sneakers, and a black fedora-style hat that rarely takes off. They need glasses, but normally doesn't use them (optional or Reis stole them).

Personality

Overall, Pessoa is quite calm but gets nervous easily, especially when someone do something too impulsive, and tends to be sarcastic. Has become more taciturn and melancholy due to past events, but remains normally in a good mood. Tends to dissociate sometimes. Pessoa likes to be alone, but he dislikes loneliness.

Ability

Description

Desassossego (disquiet) allows him to "split" into several people, and can be activated involuntarily,causing these alter-egos, or 'heteronyms' to have lives of their own. Being able to separate in several, the most recurrent are Ricardo Reis, Alberto Caeiro and Álvaro de Campos.

Derivation

The ability is a reference to Livro do Desassossego, is a work by Bernardo Soares, an semi-heteronym of Fernando Pessoa that was published in 1982. It is a fragmentary book, having more than 500 texts without any sequence between them, being the unfinished book.

Background

Early Years

Not much is known about Pessoa past, just that he attended to a english school. His loneliness as a child triggered his ability as a way of never being alone. It's unknown when he first met Almada and Mario, but it's hinted that it was during middle school (at least Mario).

Orpheu

After graduation (Arts and Humanities course), Pessoa, Mário and Almada found the Orpheu. Orpheu started as a organization that would do works that involved other ability users, serving as an intermediate. Due lack of work, they start accepting works as translators or typography. Around two years ago, Mário went for France, but kept in contact with them by letters. Pessoa meets Eça de Queiroz during a work, and rejects is offer to join his organization. Weeks later, Almada and Pessoa receive the news that Mário committed suicide in Paris. This lead to the end of Orpheu. Pessoa contacts Eça and accepts the invite for the Vencidos da Vida

• He has two cats, Ophelia and Lídia, although Lídia is Ricardo Reis' cat, not Fernando’s.
